Why this print
There's an hour when the house doesn't owe anyone anything yet. Nothing has rung, nobody has asked for anything, and the only decision made all day is that you got up. This print is that hour.
Why hang a specific hour instead of just any sunrise?
Because just any sunrise is decoration: an orange smear that could be from any day and any place, and says nothing about you. Dawn isn't that. It's a measurement. At 6:12 a.m. the sun sits 14 degrees above the horizon, and that's a fact — you can check it, not argue it. Which is why it's drawn the way data gets drawn (the arc dimensioned at 340 u, the angle annotated, the time in the margin) and not the way a landscape gets painted.
Look at the three thin arcs passing above the dome, marked +1, +2 and +3. They aren't ornament: they're the height the sun hasn't reached yet. At 6:12 the whole day is still ahead, and the print says so without writing it down. The halftone finishes the argument: the pattern is dense and tight at the bottom, against the horizon, and loosens as it climbs until there's nothing left. That light really does behave that way — it arrives packed low and hasn't got the strength for the top yet. That's what you'll tell people when they ask.
What you get
- The print, loose. The printed piece arrives and nothing else, protected for the trip. What surrounds it on your wall afterward is your call.
- Three sizes. 12 × 16 in for $39 for a short wall, an entryway or a shelf. 20 × 28 in for $89 when you want the hour readable from the doorway.
- 28 × 40 in — $139: the large format. At this size the dimensions and figures read standing up, from across the room.
- Uncoated matte paper, 80 lb (200 gsm). No sheen. At six in the morning the light comes in low and sideways: on satin paper you'd see the window reflected; on this one, you see the print.
- Printed on demand in the USA — at your door in 6-8 business days. There is no stack of Dawns in a warehouse waiting for a buyer: yours doesn't exist until you order it.
- The whole day, if you want it. With Zenith (1:48 p.m.) and Dusk (9:34 p.m.), all three are $99 and run from morning to night. Dawn on its own keeps the best part.
If you're the kind who gets up before the house does, you already know what that hour is worth. This just leaves it written on the wall, with its number.

Frequently asked questions
Which size do I pick?
30 × 40 cm — about 11.8 × 15.7 in is for short walls: the gap between two doors, above a dresser, a narrow hallway. It gets looked at up close and in passing.
50 × 70 cm — about 19.7 × 27.6 in is for when the wall is seen from a distance — from the couch, from the dining table — and needs something to hold it. If the wall is completely bare and you are unsure, it is almost always this one.
And 70 × 100 cm — about 27.6 × 39.4 in is the big format: at that size the dimensions and the numbers read standing up, from the other side of the room.
Does it come with a frame?
No. It is the loose print, unframed and without glass, and that is on purpose: the frame is the part that has to talk to your home, not to us. Framing it for you would cost you considerably more than choosing it yourself.
One thing worth knowing before you buy: our sizes are metric — 30 × 40, 50 × 70 and 70 × 100 cm, which works out to roughly 11.8 × 15.7, 19.7 × 27.6 and 27.6 × 39.4 in. A US 12 × 16", 20 × 28" or 28 × 40" frame is a fraction larger: with a mat it sits perfectly, and without one you may see a hair of a gap at the edges. If you want an exact fit, look for a frame sold in centimetres — 30 × 40 cm and 50 × 70 cm frames are easy to find online in the US.
How high should I hang a print?
The rule museums use: the centre of the print at 57-59 in (145-150 cm) from the floor, which is average eye height. You do not centre it on the wall, you centre it on the person looking at it.
If it goes above a piece of furniture — a dresser, a couch, a sideboard — then the furniture decides: leave 8-12 in (20-30 cm) between the top of the furniture and the bottom edge of the print, so the two read as one thing and not as two separate ones.
How much space do I leave between prints?
2 in (5 cm) between one print and the next is the spacing that works almost every time. Any less and they look crowded; any more and they stop reading as a set and start looking like separate pictures that happened to share a wall.
At that spacing, six 30 × 40 cm prints take up roughly 39 in wide by 33 in tall; nine, about 39 by 51 in; and all twelve, about 53 by 51 in. Worth measuring the wall before you decide how many.
What paper is it printed on, and will it curl?
200 gsm uncoated matte paper. The matte matters more than it sounds: it is the difference between seeing the drawing and seeing your ceiling light reflected back at you.
And the 200 gsm weight is exactly what keeps the print holding itself flat instead of buckling inside the frame. A 120 or 150 gsm paper does warp with humidity; this one does not.
How long does it take, and what does shipping cost?
Free shipping anywhere in the United States, with no minimum order. The price you see is the price you pay.
It is on your wall in 6-8 business days. Every print is made to order in the United States, one at a time: there is no stock waiting in a warehouse, your print starts existing the day you order it. Can I return it if I change my mind?
Every print is made to order, only for you, and nothing is held in stock — so all sales are final and we do not accept change-of-mind returns. Please pick your size carefully before ordering; the guidance above is there for exactly that.
If it arrives damaged, defective or it is the wrong item, we do cover it.
